A NEW four-storey hotel in Belfast city centre will become the latest addition to the city’s burgeoning number of places to stay.
The hotel at Bank Square will see millions ploughed into the four-floor ’boutique’ development, boasting 17 rooms and a ground floor restaurant.
MM Developments is the team behind the build.
Social Development Minister Mervyn Storey said the new plans – which are subject to a green light from planning – “will be the final piece in the jigsaw of regenerating Bank Square in Belfast city centre”.
“The hotel development will provide an active frontage for Bank Street that will further enhance the new streetscape and contribute to the physical and economic renewal of the area. It will create job opportunities and attract tourists, which will benefit businesses both locally and in the wider city centre,” he said.
Mark Matthews of MM Developments said: “I am delighted to be selected as the preferred developer for the Bank Street site to continue the rejuvenation of the Bank Square area, building on DSD’s recently completed refurbishment of the streetscape.
Belfast has witnessed a lot of hotel activity take place in the last few months, with a number of massive projects planned. One of those is the £30m four-star, 200-bedroom Belfast Grand Central Hotel which will transform 23-storey Windsor House in the city centre.
Meanwhile Benedicts Hotel on Bradbury Place is set to get an additional 24 rooms, while a brand new hotel from the same developers could bring up to 100 jobs to the city.
And last month the Belfast Telegraph revealed work will start in September on the long-awaited Belfast hotel project at the former Scottish Mutual building.
Meanwhile, the former Harland & Wolff drawing offices are being turned into a hotel, with another large hotel proposed as part of the City Quays development.
