Frank Workman then bought the property in 1907 and lived there until his death in 1936 — Workman Clark was Belfast’s smaller shipyard and even though it was known locally as ‘the wee yard’ it still employed over 10,000 people.
The McConnell family bought the house back after the 1930s depression and converted it into six apartments in 1938, which were redesigned and refurbished in 2008.
On entering what is still a very fine building the beauty of the original design is still very much apparent today and you can’t fail to be impressed by the hand-carved stone portico and grandiose communal staircase leading to the first floor apartments.
