A prime commercial property development and former Army barracks in Londonderry has gone on the market with the hope of attracting bidders who will contribute to the regeneration of the city.
The Government-owned buildings at Ebrington Square received full planning permission for a whiskey distillery, but the plans have since been scrapped and the units are now back onto the market.
Last year The Quiet Man distillery announced that it would not be following through on its original multi-million pound investment proposal for the site.
The sale is made up of four buildings including the Grade B2 Listed two-storey Old Guard House and the building known as Barrick Masters House, a three-storey structure.
Neighbouring businesses include Walled City Brewery, Cafe Ollies, the Creative Hub and the Enterprise Hub.
Phillip Smyth, director of commercial property agency Lambert Smith Hampton, said the four buildings are available as lease-hold as a group or individually. “These will appeal to a wide variety of private sector tenants who are keen to create new and sustainable jobs on the Ebrington site,” said Mr Smyth.
“The uses must fit with those approved within the Ebrington Development Framework approved in 2016.”
The Ebrington Development Framework places limits on the amount of retail and office space at the site. There are already 80 people employed with “the ultimate target being 1200 new jobs by 2032”, Mr Smyth added.
