Bank Square Boutique Hotel set for Belfast

Proposals have been granted for a four storey hotel boasting 17 bedrooms.

The hotel will be located in the ever famous spot in Belfast City Centre beside Kelly Cellars and Mourne Seafood Bar.

Being described as a ‘boutique’ hotel suitable for tourists will also include a ground floor restaurant.

Local councillor and Chair of Belfast City Council’s Planning Committee commented: “We are pleased to see Belfast’s tourism infrastructure being further boosted by these two developments as our city’s popularity as a visitor destination continues to grow.”

The application for the boutique hotel has been submitted by Cedarr Properties Ltd.

It is understood the developer behind the development is MM Developments. When the application was first submitted in August 2015, it received a positive backing from the former Department for Social Development.

The former minister Mervyn Storey said the new proposals “will be the final piece in the jigsaw of regenerating Bank Square in Belfast city centre”.

A four storey extension to the Holiday Inn Express on University Street has also been granted which will provide the hotel with an additional 60 bedrooms.

This new has come to light as work has finally started on the £30m Grand Central hotel.

This four star hotel, which boasts 200 bedroom, will remodel the 23 storey Windsor House, which the owners of Hasting Hotels purchased for £6.5m.

In total, across Belfast, there are now an estimated two dozen hotels being worked on.

There are further plans for a 206 bedroom hotel development at the Belfast Metropolitan College building in Belfast and also a Hampton by Hilton hotel.
