Stephanie Bell opens the doors to a futuristic home fit for a Hollywood star

This chic designer house which is nestled in the Craigantlet Hills wouldn’t look out of place in the exclusive A-lister avenues of the Hollywood Hills in LA.

Designed by C2 Architects of London, it has an almost futuristic feel, both inside and out, and is unlike anything you will find in the Northern Ireland countryside.

Outside, the use of zinc, timber, glass and natural stone give the house a distinctive contemporary designer look and an L-shaped wall of glass around the outdoor pool is pure Hollywood glam.

The house demonstrates the concept of pure contemporary architecture with a layout which has been conscientiously designed to maximise natural light and space.

C2 Architects said of its unique design: “The glass enclosed first floor gives a sense of freedom and space while the freestanding structures define specific areas.

“The ground floor is characterised by solidity and enclosure. The two floors blend together by way of the grand entrance and a large curved cedar wall, which fuses the exterior with the interior. The transparent and the solid, one floating above the other, create a subtle play of elements in the superb, modern country house.”

Inventive use of unusual materials also adds to the unique interior. As well as curvilinear wooden ceilings, raw concrete has been used to wonderful effect against ground floor walls finished in Silurian blue stone

Bespoke glass steps make a feature of the designer staircase and top quality Pietra Serena tiles, Junkers wooden floors and even fossil stone steps all blend to create a modern haven.

Floor to ceiling glass with internal steel pillars have been used extensively in the design and underfloor heating keeps the clean lines uncluttered by the need for radiators.

The accommodation is arranged over two floors and can be adapted to suit the occupiers’ requirements.

What you get is an entrance hall, family area, living room, kitchen open plan to dining room, a studio and four bedrooms, including a master with dressing room and en suite, plus a double garage, plant room, utility and two storerooms.

The site extends to around one acre with ample parking, gardens carefully designed with indigenous planting and lawns and an indulgent 16m x 12m heated swimming pool with wooden bridge.

A hardwood front door opens into a spectacular double height hallway with LED floor lighting. The family area is finished with a ceramic tiled floor and double-glazed doors open onto the pool.

A feature sliding partition opens onto a bedroom which is finished with a mahogany stripped floor.

The beautiful feature marble and glass staircase leads up to the open plan kitchen/dining room.

The main living room is a breathtaking space with a feature fireplace and built-in concrete home entertainment stand with shelving.

Double glass doors open onto a north balcony with views out to Belfast Lough.

Another set of double glazed sliding doors open to a south-facing balcony which has been designed for al fresco dining, overlooking the pool.
