Auction to be a TV Hit

NORTHERN Ireland’s biggest ever property auction will see more than 110 lots go under the hammer at drastically reduced prices in an event which could be filmed for national TV.

BBC’s popular Homes Under the Hammer series has asked permission to cover the auction and put local buyers and sellers in the spotlight at the event on December 3, 2013.

The auction is being staged by BRG Gibson Auctions giving investors and house hunters the chance to pick up a pre-Christmas bargain.

Nicholas Gibson said: “This is the biggest property auction ever held in the province and we are expecting around 600 people to attend.

“It’s coming towards the end of the year and a lot of people want to make a clean slate and financial institutions are clearing stocks.

“There is a large variety of properties and building sites up for auction which is sure to appeal to a wide range of buyers.”

With semis starting from £12,000 and building sites from £3,000, plus bargains such as a prime 6,000 square foot building site on Sandy Row with potential for eight units up for £28,000, there is no doubting that people are going to cash in. A single unit would currently be worth around £10,000.

Prime picks include Lot 36 which is a huge 6,000 square foot detached four bed/three reception modern home at Straidhavern Road in Nutts Corner for £145,000. To buy the land and build would currently cost around £400,000.

Lot 50 is another substantial new build on Greenpark Road in Rostrevor with four bedrooms and four reception rooms which is up for £175,000.

On the other end of the scale there is a three bed mid terrace at Dunclug Park in Ballymena with a reserve of just £12,000.

In Rugby Avenue in Belfast city centre a commercial lot which was formerly a large period house is set to go under the hammer for £165,000 and in the popular Eglantine Avenue area of the city you can pick up a six bedroom home for just £98,000. These properties sold for £400,000 at the height of the property boom and today continue to fetch around £150,000.

The auction is being staged in the Stormont Hotel on December 3, 2013 at 7.30pm.
