A disused Army base in Co Armagh has been adapted for social housing in a £2.23m development.
Park Urney in Forkhill is now a development of 22 homes after a site was bought by Fold Housing Association from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD).
The site had been used by the Ministry of Defence for more than 30 years before closing in the late 1990s during demilitarisation.
The Department for Social Development then produced a masterplan to develop the base in 2007 on behalf of DARD – with Fold Housing Association buying a two-acre site in 2012. It now has two and three-bedroomed houses, two-bedroom apartments and one fully-accessible wheelchair bungalow.
Diana Fitzsimons, chairperson of Fold Housing Association, said: “The modern dwellings reflect the character of the area and we wish the residents every success and happiness in their new homes.” She said the development reflected the transformation of the area as a “better, safer and healthier place to live”.
Agriculture Minister Michelle O’Neill said the housing scheme was a “further significant milestone” in transforming the old base.
