Co Tyrone construction firm McAleer & Rushe – which has led the charge of Northern Ireland builders finding work in Great Britain – has won planning permission for its latest development.
The Cookstown firm said Newcastle City Council in the north of England had given the green light its £100m plans for a hotel, student housing and offices or shops on Newgate Street.
Unite Students will operate the 575 student bedrooms at the site.
McAleer & Rushe also announced that the 575-bedrooms student housing element of the scheme will be operated by the UK’s leading provider of purpose built student accommodation, Unite Students.
The developer and contractor has also built a major hotel, office and residential scheme at St James’s Gate in Newcastle, as well as working on a 204-bedroom Jurys Inn in the city.
In London, the company is building a new 380-room Hub by Premier Inn at Kings Cross. And it’s also building apartments for Taylor Wimpey, as well as more student housing in Southhampton.
At home, it’s building a new 100,000 sq ft office for Belfast City Council, on the Clarendon House site on Adelaide Street in Belfast.
It also plans to develop two major student housing schemes delivering 1280 rooms on McClintock Street and Blackstaff Square in the city.
